This paper is based on the gate's retractile seal engineering research with high water-pressure in XiaWang hydroelectric Station. It does some research and experiment on the mechanics and seal result of retractile seal with high pressure. Four designs and two kinds of materials are taken in the experiment. The experimental water pressure is of 80m to 200m, gate's gap is of 5mm to 20mm.This research makes use of section model and whole model.We could observe the physical change process of the seal in working condition and the water-resistance shape of the seal in the section mode experiment. We also could do the research of the seal's water-resistance mechanics. So we could better choose the seal. We could observe the water resistance process along the perimeter of seal in whole model experiment. It could compensate the defect of section model experiment. These two model experiments would compensate each other's defects.Through the section model experiment, we could know the water resistance result of the seal has something to do with the seal's physics and the material used in seal. I type seals with large gate's gap could not resist the water. II type and III type seals could bring better water resistance with the advantage of their geometry change. IV type seal with its resilient change, which makes retract easier, could bring better water resistance within certain pressure and gate's gap. The experiment shows the water resistance back pressure of seals made of LD-19 material is larger than that of 100#. The LD-19 material has some advantages. After the section model experiment, we choose LD-19 seals of II type to do the whole model experiment.The overall water resistance experiment of LD-19 seals of II type shows, when the gate's gap is within 30mm, and the reservoir pressure is under 2.0MPa, if the back pressure is large enough, the seal could resist the water. There exists certain difference in the back pressure of the different seal's parts. The contact's back pressure is a little larger than the reservoir's pressure due to the objective defect of the seal's contact.Through the experiment we get the regressive relationship curve between the different seals'water resistance back pressure, the reservoir pressure and the gate's gap. And we get the water resistance back pressure of the rectangular and turn sections under certain reservoir pressure and gate's gap through the calculation of regressive relationship curve equation, which could provide some reference in design.The experiment demonstrates that seals could absolutely meet the water resistance requirement of 200m's water pressure if the right seal, press plate type, and the material are chosen. This eliminates the worries in the engineering applications.With the result of the experiment research, this thesis also provides some suggestions in the design, make and run of seals in engineering. It also provides some advices on the defect of this research and the further research afterwards.
