All kinds of high efficiency heat exchanger were widely used in the every fields of industry. However, it will frost on the cold surface when the ambient air was below freezing temperature, which reduces the efficiency of heat exchanger and the performance of heat exchanger. Therefore, study the mechanism and process of frosting is necessary, and the research has great social significance and economical value.In order to understand the frosting rules and the performance of fin-tube heat exchanger in the low-temperature conditions. In this paper, the main study subject was star-fin-tube exchanger, because it widely used in the field of low temperature. Firstly, the paper analyzed the process of frosting of star-fin-tube exchanger, then apply the theories and hypothesis conditions to establish a mathematical model of frosting process of this heat exchanger. Finally, the paper comprehensive analysis the theoretical results and experimental results so that to understand the affecting factors of star-fin-tube heat exchanger under the frost condition, ultimately obtain the frost rules and the frost characteristics of the star-fin-tube heat exchanger. At the same time, this paper use the test results check the correctness of the mathematical model, such as heat exchangers to further optimize the design and control of the defrost provide advice and information theory.The results show that environmental factors has important effect to the frosting rate of fin-tube heat exchanger , the environmental factors include humidity of air, the temperature of environmental, blowing rate of air, and so on. Be more important, the fluid form of low-temperature tube has eventful effect with rate of frosting. After study all of those affect factors, Get an important conclusion that obvious areas of frosting lay in the upside and inlet of the finned-tube heat exchanger.
