The excitation system is a very important part in power system automation. It affects directly generator operation's reliability and economization and power system operation's stability. The performance optimization of excitation system and the research of excitation control strategy have decisive effect to generator and overall power system.The paper discusses the topology of main circuit and the work principle of assistant circuit in detail according to the technology characteristic of a 300MW synchronous generator. In order to enhance the control accuracy and real-time ability of the excitation system, the paper researches the hardware and software's design of excitation controller based on DSP and the controller satisfies different work state generator's request about control function of excitation system.Secondly, this paper has expatiatted the excitation control theory of PID+PSS and LOEC and analyses impersonality their excellence and shortcoming. The paper brings forward the idea of synthesis excitation control according to their excellence and the idea has becomed true on microcontroller. The experiment results show that synthesis excitation control has well performance and enhances the control precision. Meanwhile, the PSS arithmetic is ameliorated in allusion to the reverse control shortcoming of the single parameter PSS. The reverse control is ravelled out and the PSS performance is enhanced to restrain the low frequency oscillations.Finally, the paper deduces the mathematics equations of synchronous generator voltage build-up and de-excitation acoording to generator park differential equations. The paper establishes the simulation models of voltage build-up and de-excitation.The simulation results are given and analysed, the useful conclusions are gained.
