Chinese traditional architecture holds a very important position in the world with its timber structure, long history, large quantity, complex structure, rich scientific and cultural content, and excellent seismic behaviors. Many historic timber structure endured earthquakes, gales, corrosion of physics and chemistry but still stand firmly owe to the outstanding material, special structure and aborative maintenance. But there are few research on this aspect, estimate the security correctly and put forward remedy project is a big problem as so far.The estimation of the residual service life of timber structure that is very popular abroad is of importance to property maintenance. Based on extensive investigation of construction technique history of Chinese ancient buildings, this paper created a model on the imitation of the rampart of Xi'an east city gate in China, and based on the model the work is as follows:The paper makes a thorough investigation on the structural properties of china historic timber structures with the emphasis on the suitable theoretical modeling. According to mechanics analysis and scientific predilection of ancient architecture, get the load history of the structure from the finite element analysis. And it proved that structural destruct is not material yield but tenon joint apart. There is a mature method to predict load carrying capacity and the residual service life of timber structure, this paper will put foreword the method as a proposal of predicting the residual service life of timber structures.Ancient timber structure usually is a building with a big housetop where centralized most of the weight of the whole structure on the ground. All the weight can transfer to the pillar from girder, then to the ground. So the pillar usually endured axial force and the gird moment. From the static FE analysis, we can get the axial force and moment and put them into the cumulative damage model. Then we get the residual service life of the member in the timber structure. In a word, these theoretic data have theoretic sense and applied value in engineering.
