Energy conservation and environmental protection is the world's two major themes of universal concern. The rapid development of automobile industry not only speeds up the consumption of finite energy resources but also causes serious environmental pollution. In order to alleviate the pressure of energy sources' limitation and reduce automobile exhaust pollution, it is very austere to find a clear alternative fuel for engine. It is said that hydrogen energy has a wide foreground as a alternative fuel for engine due to its abundant, renewable, clear, wildly used, and non-polluting nature. Thus, researching on the hydrogen deeply and by the numbers is a significant and challenging work.Different kinds of mixture mode are illustrated in details, their advantage and disadvantage are analyzed, and it can be conclude that timed manifold injection (TMI) hydrogen-fueled engine has predominance to research and application. Based on the physical and chemical properties of hydrogen, the producing mechanisms of abnormal combustion and NO_x are figured out. Measures of restraining abnormal combustion and NO_x are illustrated. It is find that the optimal controlling of injection time and mixture concentration can avoid the occur of abnormal combustion, retarding the injection time can reduce emission but not obviously, optimal controlling on the EGR ratio can reduce the emission to a ideal level without a little lose of power.The exiting 4JB1CNG engine which formerly uses CNG as fuel was refitted into a hydrogen-fueled engine. The fuel delivery system and electronic control system were redesigned. The new plan adopted sequential non-distributor ignition and electronic throttle valve. In order to meet the need of performance and emission, brought forward separating the working area of excess air ratio X, controlled the hydrogen-fueled engine's Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) dynamically on the separated working area based on different aim. Controlling strategy of AFR, ignition timing, injection timing also were researched, and these strategy play a very important role to reduce the NO_x emission, decrease the loss of power, and restrain the abnormal combustion. Smooth starting controlling parameters including injection pulse-width, injection time, sparking time were achieved through test trip. Hydrogen-fueled engine were coMPared with the same engine using CNG as a fuel in the aspect of performance and emission under 1200rpm load property curve.After theory research and test trip of TMI hydrogen-fueled engine, if in despite of the producing cost of hydrogen, the TMI hydrogen-fueled engine was worth to research and apply due to its excellent performance and little emission which is can be neglected without a lot of refit on the exiting engine.
