Rockfall is a kind of highly paroxysmal and hardly predictable geological hazard, which can cause serious loss. This thesis introduced the causes, classification of rockfall and the factors that influence the movement of rockfall, and then analyzed numerical simulation of rockfall using kinematic principles. For the first time, this thesis introduced grey relative degree theory into kinematic parameters analysis of rockfall, and explored the relations between the parameters and the relevant computing results. In dealing with the rockfall on the rock slopes surrounding the switch station attached to Baoquan hydraulic power station, the empirical method which is widely used in China and the advanced method of kinematics are compared. According to the results of kinematic simulation, this thesis discussed feasible rockfall protection measures and recommended protection scheme. The kinematical computing method adopted by this thesis can be applied to similar hydraulic projects.
