As an important technology and method, hydraulic transmission system has been getting intensive application in many areas. At the same time, together with the deep exploring of theories and the gradual popularity of applications, the design of hydraulic system has come to be a primary part in some machinery system design. However, to develop an excellent draft, the designer is always required to not only have a good mastery of basic hydraulic system knowledge, but also have an enough of experiences. When developing a draft, there should deal with many graphs, data, design specification, basic components or basic standard circuits and test results. And Traditional developing method is fulfilled by a manual retrieval of information and computation and drafting. It needs much of human resources and long period of design cycle, and the effect is very low.With the rapid development of computer technology, a good amount of software is used in the enterprises, especially those for engineering design. Case-based reasoning, abbreviated by CBR, is a reasoning method using old and past cases or experiences to solve the current new problems. This method can not only effectively organize and utilize the occupied cases and practices, but also fulfill the application of the best similarity of cases. Incorporated with Computer aided technology, based on the preliminary conceiving, judgment and decision, it can retrieve from huge information and compute and analyze and optimize according corresponding technical requirements, and then help people finish the design.What how to effectively utilize the successful design cases and experiences when developing a hydraulic transmission draft and then using them to help the designer optimize his design is to be a practically important subject. Just root this idea, we will focus on the detail application of CBR in hydraulic transmission draft optimization, and then develop a system. Just based on CBR theories and examples of home and abroad and the study and analysis on traditional hydraulic transmission draft design, we summarize the feature expression of hydraulic transmission system, and develop an optimal model on CBR for the system design. Together, we put emphasis on the optimization of basic standard hydraulic circuits, and develop a prototype system with input, searching and reasoning abilities.Here we will discuss and research:1) the background and state-of-art of related theories at home and abroad, together with the histories and trends of hydraulic CAD technology and CBR;2) The basic principles and critical technologies of CBR, together with the feature expression of hydraulic system and its database development. Also the fulfillment of case expression, retrieval, reuse and modification is studied;3) how to draw the principal circuits of hydraulic transmission draft, and the development of components' and basic standard circuits' CAD drawing library;4) And the development of prototype optimization computer aided platform for hydraulic transmission draft just based on afore-mentioned studies, at the same time, take a detail discussion on all functions and operation of it. Finally, utilize two engineering examples to have a demo of this system as a check of feasibility and practicability.
