Avoiding the blindness of the reactive power building, and using reactive power planning to determine reactive compensation package are very important work to ensure that the security of the power system, the economy and quality of supply. In order to solve the problem of irrational allocation of reactive power equipment of the Baotou Steel power system, the paper uses genetic algorithm into Baogang reactive power planning. By calculating and analysis, this paper does a comprehensive study on the layout of the system, problems and reactive power equipment. At last, this paper puts forward solutions and implement them.The experimental results show that after the present method's calculation on Baogang reactive power planning, the voltage quality has been improved, and the system cost has been greatly reduced. Reactive power allocation has been at a reasonable state. All of these fully proved that this method is really useful and practically significance.
