| The identification,processing and utilization of transient signals are the foundation of a new protection theory-Transient based Protecrion. Wavelet transform has location-resolve ability in time and frequency domain.It is the powerful tool process the electric power system transient signals. The wavelet analysis theory is described,and the characteritic of mother wavelets is discussed.The basis of the selection of mother wavelet in analysis transient signals that are common seen in power system is provided. Simulations were done of a 500kV transmission line.Simulation to the lightning strike, analysed the results by using energy statistic; Simulation to the single-phase grouding, analysed the results by Multi-Resolution-Analysis; built about two transient signals including single-phase grouding and lightning strike, analysed the results by using energy statistic. The correctness of the proposed choices is proved.
