In this paper, China's 10 kV distribution network characteristics and feeder automation technology are deeply studied. Then a proper mode is proposed, that is protection based on FTU and power line carrier communication is primary and protection based on the FTU reclosing method is secondary. No matter communication is normal or not, it can achieve isolating the fault line section and restoring power to unfaulted line sections. Then hardware and software of FTU to the proposed mode are designed and accomplished. Several typical interference sources in power system with their generations and spectrum are analyzed, and then some corresponding anti-jamming methods including hardware and software are taken to improve the reliability of FTU. Finally, some experiments and tests are done both in the laboratory and the 10kV power line. Results showed that the FTU achieved the expected demand.
