This paper study on navigation in approach channel . when dynamic water meet static water ,there are spiral flow and spiral vortex in approach channel. In this report, in consulting a great deal of domestic and international literature, the contents are studied on the way of numerical calculation, experimental model test by analogical analysing and summarizing the other similar engineering research achievements. We get plenty of results by analyzing. But the main results include:1) On the basis of the tow-dimensional shallow water equation and the tow-dimension depth averaged finite element hydrodynamic numerical model. The model computes horizontal velocity components for subcritical free-surface tow-dimensional flow fields. The equation are solved by the finite element method using the Galerkin Method of weighted residuals. Intergration in space is performed by Gaussian .Intergration Derivatives in time are replace by non linear finite difference approximation. The solvtion is fully implicit and the set of simulataneous equation is solved by Newton-Raphson non liner interation scheme.2) By numerical simulation and experimental model test, this paper gives an exposition to the flow conditions at entrance area and its influence to navigation. Flood- discharging has influence on the navigation of downstream approach channel, and espe- cially oblique flow formed in the downstream approach entrance and connect region d- uring flood-discharging influenced the navigation greatly. By the characteristic values of the oblique flows and characteristic values of the ship sailing in oblique flows, the navi- gation flow condition are analyzed effectly. The influence caused by oblique flow will be redued through modifying the navigation.3) By the physical model on the scale of 1:100 and numerical simulation, various arrangements of downstream approach channel of the Shi Hu Tang are studied. Navigable flow conditions in the channel, around the channel entrance and at the channel connecting section under various plans are analyed from the aspects of flood di- scharing. It's shown from the result that the revisions in layouts is the optimum one.
