Insulator defection is one of the basic dangers in the operations of transmission line and has received much attention from scientists and workers. Nowadays, insulator defection has caused many unpredictable damages in transmission lines. So how to locate the defective insulators on the strings is the main point and difficult point for insulator detecting.This article proposed a designing scheme based on voltage distribution method. We use the combination of the sensitive method and the adjacent method to define whether there exists a defective insulator on the string and to locate its position. The detector based on this principle has many advantages. It can be easily operated and is very accurate. It simplifies the detecting work and meanwhile meets the standards of power supply system.This article starts from the discussion of different on line monitoring methods and then explains the voltage distribution method and the designing principle based on it. The difficult points of the designing are the accuracy of the sensor, the data transmission pattern and the anti-interference ability. Through comparison, we choose resistance distributor as sensor, wireless communication as data transmission pattern and explain the anti-interference designing on hardware and software. At last, we explain in details the software designing diagram and the error control and frequency hopping scheme. This system realizes the data display and storage using OLED and USB, also enables the detector some intelligence.
