Train track occupancy recognition is to determine if the train is passing over a switch and to supply reliable information for train positioning system and train control system. A key requirement for track occupancy recognition method is to determine precisely and with a high level of confidence that a train has entered a siding to allow another higher priority train to pass on the mainline track.Train positioning system is to precisely acquire real-time position of the train. Train location system plays a very important role in Automatic Train Control System. Its accuracy and reliability are important factors for headway in Train Control System. It will affect the efficiency of transport systems. So it has great significance to study the train positioning method deeply.The contents of this paper were as follows:1. In this paper, the concept and characteristic of virtual instrument and LabVIEW is introduced. LabVIEW based Multi-sensor information acquisition platform is built.2. The method of discrete Kalman filter commonly used in signal filter is especially explained. Common Kalman filter and simplified Sage-Husa Kalman filter algorithm are simulated. In order to improve the performance of the effect of the Kalman filter, analysis and comparison of CA model and current statistical model are made.3. Train track occupancy recognition method is proposed. The method uses the estimated track radius and the change of course angle to determine if the train is passing over a switch. In this method, track radius is obtained by information fusion with gyro & odometer or gyro & accelerometer.4. Train positioning method is proposed. In this method, track radius is obtained by information fusion with gyro & odometer and then matched with the stored track radius with railway database. The method can play the role of virtual Eurobalise and calibrate the error of odometer.
