Eight national department, included the national machine department, declared in 1997 that no more over-temperature relay would be produced and lated-model electronic motor protection would replace over-temperature relay stage by stage from December 31,1997.It is imperative for the research, development and production of Intelligent Protector. The original takes the Induction Motor as research target. In this article, proposes to combine the Symmetrical components method with the DSP (Digital Signal Processor) control technique and PROFIBUS-DP BUS technique in an effort to design intelligent Protector for Induction Motor, which includes protection, control, measurement and communication.Based on TMS320LF2407 that produced by TI Co., the system chiefly completes the data synchronization collecting, regulating and executing the protective action. by using PROFIBUS-DP Field-bus which has the advantages of high reliability and high speed transmission, a distributing network system is composed for communication between motor protector and central controlling system, so that the central controlling system can monitor the motor protector and diagnose fault of corresponding motor.The traditional over-current protector can not effectively protect motor when there is a imbalanced fault. In this paper, the Symmetrical components method is employed as basic theory of motor protection to fulfill the diagnosis of imbalanced fault. The intelligent protector can deal with the following motor faults such as short-circuit, loss of phase, imbalance, locked rotor, overload, low-voltage, over-voltage by measuring negative sequence current, positive sequence current and zero sequence current and processing the current data with the Symmetrical components method.PCB has been designed for hardware of the system, software has been designed and adjusted for every function module. It is proved that the system can communicate with central controlling system through PROFIBUS-DP.
