For consolidation of composite ground with granular columns, the theoretical researches and laboratory experiments have been achieved considerable successes. However, many problems such as the ones with impeded boundaries are remained to be solved. In-depth studies about this problem have both theoretical and practical significances. Based on the research work available on the consolidation of sand-drained ground and on the composite ground, the analytical consolidation theory and behavior of composite foundation with impeded boundaries are studied in this thesis. The main work is as follows:1. Analytical solution for consolidation of one-layered composite ground with impeded boundaries is obtained, in which, the effects of the disturbance due to pile installation and the pile resistance as well as the stress concentration are taken into consideration. Based on the solution and numerical computation, the effects of pile resistance and permeable factor on the consolidation behavior are discussed.2. A new method for solving consolidation problem of double-layered composite ground with granular columns is proposed and the analytical solution presented. The applicability of this solution to double-layered nature foundation and sand-drained ground is discussed. Furthermore, the studies for the effects of many factors such as stress concentration on the consolidation of double-layered composite ground are made.3. Further studies for consolidation of double-layered composite ground with impeded boundaries are made on the basis of the above-mentioned work, and the corresponding analytical solutions are derived for different cases. Through numerical computations and analyses, the influences of impeded boundaries, pile ratio and stiffness, as well as the permeability of soil layers on the consolidation behavior of double-layered composite ground are discussed.
