Aramid Fiber reinforced plastic sheet (AFS) applied in concrete structures is a new retrofit method in the field of civil engineering. In this paper, based on the experiment of 16 simply supported second forces reinforced concrete beams strengthened in shear with externally bonded aramid fiber sheet, the failure type, the ultimate shear strength and the influence factors that are related to shear strengthening effect are researched and analyzed. The influence factors include width and spacing of AFRP, layers of AFRP, hoops of beams and concrete strength. The test results show that the shear strength is obviously increased and the ductility of these beams is also improved.According to the analysis of the experimental results, a formula for estimating the shear capacity is proposed. Comparing with experimental data, the calculation results show good agreement.
