With the development of freeway, a single carriageway & single cell box girder is used widely in constructing continuous beam bridges and continuous rigid frame bridges. In the other hand, the shear lag effect on a box girder increases with the width-depth ratio. In this paper, firstly, the applicability and limitation of current theories and methods analysing the shear lag effect on a box girder are summarised and discussed. Then a FEM model of the shear lag effect is made for a classical wide-flange box girder, which is verified through an organic glass model test on a cantilever beam with single cell box. At the same time, on the basis of the FEA, various factors of the shear lag effect on a box girder are analysed and some proposals are provided for the related problems in bridge design. In a sense, the results can be referred in designing box girder bridges. |
