The structure and motion information of target have great significance as for the target identification. This dissertation takes the target identification in ballistic missile midcourse as the research background, and focuses on size estimation and precession period estimation based on narrowband RCS series. The background and significance of the research were firstly analyzed. Then the present status of size estimation and motion feature extraction based on RCS is summarized, following which the framework and main content of this thesis are introduced .Chapter 2 first introduces the definition and prediction of RCS briefly, and analyzes the structure characteristic of midcourse object, builds several kinds of CAD models to get the static RCS data with the electromagnetic scattering calculation software, then uses B-spline function to fit dynamic RCS series.Chapter 3 presents that the equivalent sphere model ( SEM ) is not suitable to size estimation of the typical mid-course object. theory RCS and simulation RCS of Cone in the radar line of sight of mid-course are almost the same, then the relation curve among the mean of RCS , wavelength and cone length is derived from theory formulas, and the conclusion is testified by simulations.Chapter 4 studies the precession period estimation based on narrowband RCS, proposes the concept of average autocorrelation function, and uses the autocorrelation function and the variance analysis method estimate process period of the RCS series effectively.Summary of this dissertation is made and the problems needed further research are pointed out finally.
