Abstract/Summary:
Priority of public transportation is one of the most effective methods to address traffic congestion, which is lead from traffic supplies cannot meet the demand under the urban shortage of transport resources. Setting up bus lane is one of the bus priority measures. The bus lane could be set up to improve bus operating environment, improve bus speed and reduce delays. These may ensure the operation of the bus punctuality rate and improve public transport services to lead to the most optimal allocation of traffic resources. The bus lanes are set up to promote the development of public transportation. It is also an effective way to ease the pressure on urban traffic. In this paper the impact of bus lane on road traffic is analyzed. On the base of the Road Traffic flow model, some examples are selected to be calculated the speed of vehicles on the section of bus lane. VISSIM one of simulation software is also used to simulate road traffic. Analyze the impacts in quantify according to the simulation results. This paper includes the following aspects:(1) Summarize the researches of bus lane at home and abroad. And the related concepts of bus lane and the forms of bus lane are also summarized.(2) Apply the existing model and calculate the speed of vehicles to analyze the impact of bus lane on road traffic in some sections in Beijing.(3) Establish simulated models of the sections under the same traffic conditions but different length and select the average travel time of all vehicles, bus delay, car delay and average delay per person as indicators to evaluate the differences of the traffic impact between the sections with bus lanes and without bus lane when the length of section is different.(4) Establish simulation models of the intersection under the same traffic signal, the same number of approaches but different traffic saturation degree and select the average queue length of the intersection, bus delay, car delay and average delay per person as indicators to evaluate the differences of the traffic impact between the intersections with bus-only approaches and without bus-only approaches when the traffic saturation degree of intersection is different.
