Nowadays, energy saving of buildings is a problem noticed by people all around the world. To meet the ever-increasing demand for energy and appeal for environment protection, renewable energy sources are playing an important role in China. As a revolutionary technology, geothermal heat pump (GHP) is used widely in the HVAC field at home and abroad.Energy consumption of the railway in China is becoming a serious problem. For one thing, the range of heating and refrigeration along the railway is wider than before, but the traditional way of heating and refrigeration has a lot of disadvantages; For the other thing, the particularity of the buildings along the railways propose much more demands to the heating and refrigeration system. Through the research and analysis of several aspects, the conclusion is that the geothermal heat pump can perfectly satisfy the demand of heating and refrigeration of the building along the railways. This paper mainly analyses the feasibility and technical conditions of applying the technology in the buildings along Chinese railway lines. Basic research is done to study the characteristics of different types of GHP, as well as the varieties of geothermal energy along the railway. The design and the construction method is studied to show the technical advantages. The benefit of environmental protection and energy saving is also given after analysis of the running conditions of the three projects in different areas. Finally, according to the policies and criterions of the technology in China, several suggestions are proposed about facilitating the utilization of GHP in Chinese railway.
