The Global Positioning System (GPS) has the virtue of high precision, working day to night and no location-limiting. It's more precise, flexible and low-cost than other location systems. The wide applications of the Global Positioning System(GPS)are more and more benefiting people'life. Embedded technology and product have gotten great progress in these years, embedded technology is used in all kinds of industry. With the combination of the two technologies, an application of GPS receiver for vehicle based on WinCE5.0 OS and ARM S3C2440 is proposed as well as designed.At first Part paper introduces the principle of GPS and embedded system. Then introduce the common structure of GPS receiver. The third part is focus on the design of system hardware, it gives a brief introduction of S3C2440 and peripheral ICs which include GPS module, storage module, audio module, display module and power module. System software design is the most important part in this paper. It introduces the core service of WinCE5.0 and its registry table briefly, and discusses the WinCE5.0 transplant in detail. BSP development is the core in WinCE5.0 transplant. BSP mainly consists of Bootloader, OAL and Driver. Bootloader is used to boot and load OS image; OAL is the connection between kernel and hardware; driver is responsible for managing hardware. Paper gives running result of system at last.
