Bridege is a very important part of transportation, a significant chain to connect the road net. With the development of our national economy and highway transportation, rapid increase of traffic amount, brideges have entered into the maintenance periods. The deterioration and maintenance bridges have become major concerns, and thus the development of practical bridge disease database system for existing bridges is becoming more and more required. Before, it was typical that each application used alone its own database due to the limitation of software tools of developing and technologies of application designing. In this case, repeated construction, lack of flexibility, inextensibility, not meeting users' need to be changed and difficulty of maintenance were brought about. With the promotion of the technology of software developing, implementing a flexible and extensible application is prevailing. Furthermore, as far as bridge database's traits are concerned, designing an opening database managing system is good for building a basic data platform, furthering share of data and speeding the pace of being info.This paper is plunged into bridge disease database system and some important theories and technologies related to database system after analyzing the traits of need of the current bridge disease database. And it puts forward a kind of spatial database conceptual model of bridge disease. What's more, based on the designing thought of bridge disease database system, the Bridge Disease Database Managing System is implemented. This paper presents the building of Database System for Disease Management on Bridge which is compiled with the help of SQL Server 2000 Database Management System,The database possesses the functions of data maintenance, information query, statistical analysis and report forms output etc. Furthermore, it also wants to achieve the visibility management of highly integrated database of figures, attribute, image and text, and to improve the accuracy of database storage, convenience of information search and obviousness and accuracy of bridge performance evaluation. At last the author discuss about the limitations and bugs of the system as well as the future way to improve on it.
