Since the 1960s, after the double-curved arch bridge was firstly built in Wuxi County of Jiangsu province, it has been extensively built all over the country. However for some reasons, a lot of double-curved arch bridge appeared the damage of the different degree after being used some periods of time and need to be assessed, maintain or reinforce. In this article, the method how to establish the dimensional model of existing double-curved arch bridge by making use of large software MSC.Nastran is studied, the importance of the lateral bracing is pointed out by spatial analysis. Firstly, the basic theories of arch-curved bridges are introduced in brief after its origins. Secondly, the basic principles of finite element methods and large software MSC.Nastran are introduced briefly. Thirdly, through establishing the FEM model by the measured arch axial line to analysis the calculation of internal force, including build the solid model of a single double curved arch bridge. Finally, We accomplished the spatial finite element analysis and calculation of the former model from the status of pre-and-post reinforcement and finished comparisons and analysis by means of stress state of main arch ring under action of gravity and live loading. Finally, it's revealed that the destruction of lateral contact is one of the main courses which make this bridge style's structure failure. It's emphasizes the necessity of spatial finite element analysis in reinforcement of old double curved arch bridges. The spatial finite element analysis of double curved arch bridge provide reliable a theoretic- al basis to reflecting the actual force conditions of old double curved arch bridge. It's also provide the valuable basis to confirming the strengthen schemes of the similar bridges.
