The Mesozoic's mudstone distributes widely in Chongqing and contacts with substructure engineering tightly. Owing to connatural softrock's characters of mudstone, There appears many problems in the course of investigation, designing and constructing. So it is vital to research on mudstone interrelated with substructure engineerings, especially research on the relation between compositive characters and engineering characteristics.In the article, the author studied the mudstone of Feixianguan Formation-3, Feixianguan Formation-1, Zhenzhuchong Formation, Suining Formation and Penglaizhen Formation. Using X-diffractive instrument analyses mudstone's mineral composing, using scanning electron microscope analyses mudstone's microstructure (including caly-grain and hole) fractal dimension character and ordinary chemic method analyses mudstone's chemic composing and compares the difference among different mudstones.Mudstone's physical characters, unticompressive-stress, untipullstress, untishearing-force and expansibility and bulgy-ratio are determined and compared with the difference of this characters between parallel bedding and vertical bedding and described both durability mechanism and weather resistance. Related functions are acquired among mineral composing and pore characters and cements and mechanics characters. At last, it is help to explain functionary mechanism between physical composing and mechanics characters from related functions angles.
