Nowadays, with their great advantages such as high bearing capacity, excellent anti-earthquake property and ability to reduce the uneven settlement of groundsill, pile foundations have been more and more widely used in the foundation of high-rise buildings, heavy factories, bridges, docks, man-sized machine-electricity equipment and special structures. As an important load-transferring part of pile foundations, pile caps act as the links between upper and lower parts of the foundation. For this important component, the designers has no rules to implement so far, that cause the design of pile caps was so conservative and the measurement of pile caps were so large , by the reason of the experimental and the theory study were insufficiency. Based on the question, how to simulate and design the pile-caps in the earthquake, seismic performance of pile-caps as follows:1. Seismic response of the pile caps under different stiffness of pile caps has been analyzed and discussed. It shows that the condition performs more accuracy for the seismic design of pile caps, which derivate from the static station; when the stiffness of pile caps is large, the beam model of pile caps performs more inaccuracy for pile caps, but accuracy for piles.2. Seismic response of the pile caps under different seismic models of piles has been analyzed and discussed. It shows that elastic fixed model performs more accurate when analyzing the seismic response of the pile foundation. But must to pay attention to the time of the piles' seismic response.3. The role that transfer-force ability and energy-dissipation ability of the collar beam has been analyzed and discussed. It shows that the collar beam has important role in transfer-force between the pile caps; The plastic hinge, forming in the collar beam, has important role in energy-dissipation for the collar beam; but has unimportant role for the pile foundation.4. The seismic check of pile caps has been analyzed and discussed, include the parameters, demand and test ability. 5. Research the earthquake resistance conceptual design of the pile caps, from the perspective of the piles, towers and pile-caps self.
