1. PrefaceAs the development of the automobile industry in our country, the safety regulations will be greatly improved. Our country has begun to legislate the compulsive standard of children restraint system since 2003.Besides, the Chinese New Car Assessment Program(C-NCAP) appeared in 2006.No wonder, it is good news, for one thing we have our own NCAP, and for another we are now merging with the world. At the same time such indication suggests us that we have to improve and develop our level of research if we want to gain a firm foothold in the international competition. At present backdrop of the times, it is important to do special research on the smart restraint system, of which is critical to improve the level of OOP.Comparing to the normal situation, it is much more complex to study the technique of OOP through simulation. If occupants are in the OOP situation when crash occurs, occupants will be easily hurt for the occupants will be impacted as they are contacting with the deploying airbags. And it is the key that modeling accurate airbag simulation model for the OOP research. There are many factors that influence the deployment of airbag in its kinematics and kinetics'characteristic, including the property of the airbag itself and the folding ways of the airbag and so on. Since lots of tests and simulation will have to be involved to establish the model and the validation work, there the value of the simulation appeared that it is meaningful to start OOP research by computer simulation.Along with the improvement of passive safety technique, the study is developing towards the direction of devising a smart occupant restraint system which can protect passengers in many load case, so the research in OOP protection become very important. Under this background, base on a homemade car and the frontal regulation FMVSS208 regulated by USA, this paper mainly study on the simulation and test method in OOP research, and discuss the way to optimize the airbag system in OOP case.2. Scope of Paper1. On the basis of reading a large number of papers and regulations, the internal and external status of passive safety had been investigated in this thesis. Airbag-the important part of the restraint system has been introduced. Moreover, the protection of the advanced airbag system to OOP occupants had been illuminated.2. By studying USA and Europe safety standards, we see that there are some obvious shortcomings in the safety rule of vehicle front crash in our country, especially in the OOP protection aspect, so the requests about OOP protection in the frontal regulation FMVSS208 are summarized. Strategies in OOP protection study are provided on the basis of occupant restraint system study method that we have mastered.3. According to the data of a homemade passenger car, a passenger side multiple chambers airbag system CFD simulation model is established, and the method of modeling is discussed, Which involve CAE modeling and definition of the multiple chambers and its cover property. The simulation model has been validated in basal characteristics of airbag system airbag system.4. The unfolded airbag and folded airbag static deployment tests had been designed for airbag model validation. Furthermore, and the CFD simulation model has been validated in kinematics and kinetics characteristics of airbag system by 6 years old child OOP static tests. The CFD model and Uniform-Pressure model have been compared. It is obvious that the CFD model more accurate than UP model in OOP study through the contrast result analysis. The problem in process of airbag model validation has been discussed.5. On the basis of requests in FMVSS208 about OOP static test, the passenger side Hybrid III 6-year-old child out of position case has been studied. In the study, base on the data of the passenger airbag of the homemade passenger car, dual airbag system and dual inflator single chamber airbag system have been designed. Comparing the performance between such two airbag systems, at last strategies of protecting the OOP kids have been proposed.3. Significance of Paper1. This paper explored and mastered the method of simulation and test about OOP protection study, and accumulated some valuable modeling method and experience. This paper also described the process of establishing a CFD multiple chambers airbag model and OOP static test model. Through a lot of work, we finally got a validated, stable simulation model, which was the base of future simulation work.2. Through designing different airbag systems, this paper summarized some useful strategies for the study of the protection of OOP child which can be regarded as the reference of relevant research next.3. This paper has realistic meanings to research the advanced occupant restraint system of our country, reference that can be developed as the smart occupant restraint system.
