With the development of the structure design in the tall buildings, the non-planar reinforced concrete beam-wall joints will be widely used in the frame-shear wall structures and some problems have arisen at the same time. On one hand, since very few studies on the non-planar beam-wall joints have been carried out and there is no established method for the detailed design of the non-planar beam-wall joints based on the current code for the design of the concrete structures, on the other hand as the thickness of the walls are small and the anchorage length of steel of the beams aren't satisfied the code, so the application of such joints may bring the hided trouble. Such problems had been concerned by researchers and engineers and were appointed as the National Natural Science Foundation funded research projects.Generally speaking, in frame-shear wall and frame-core tube structures, there are at least two different kinds of connecting joints between the reinforcement concrete floor beam and the shear wall or core tube. One is coplanar joint at which the beams are coplanar with the walls; the other is non-planar joint at which the beams are at arbitrary angles to the walls. The focus of the present study is the latter which is the right angle beam-wall joints. So far only a few investigations study the non-planar beam-wall joint. In this paper, a nonlinear FEA is carried out for the shear-walls with hidden columns based on ANSYS. The effects of the different width of the hidden column on the non-planar load-carrying capacity of shear-wall are taken into account and the numerical results are proved correctly by comparing with the experimental results.
