As an international gateway and window of China, Kunming new airdrome which is the fourth largest airport for the whole country, covers an area of wide scale and the event, has a total investment of over 260 million. The completion of the new airport is of great strategic significance to accelerate the pace of opening to the outside world and promote socio-economic development in Yunnan. But the new airport site engineering geological conditions and hydrogeological conditions is very complicated, red clay and soft secondary red clay soil widely distribute on bedrock, the most difference of height is more than 210 meters,the greatest filling depth is about 50 meters,the filling works is totally of 200 million steres, and it is only nine kilomemters from the strong seismic activity Xiaojiang fault zone. Therefore, It is necessary to select the presence of a number of local representative district to complete pilot study, and then extend the results to the design and construction of the entire field.Based on the Kunming new airport project, and in view of the site-specific engineering properties of red clay, this paper summarized the international status about red clay in the subgrade treatment and high embankment.And the main research work and conclusions of this paper as follows:â‘ Completed the red clay filling material compaction test and mechanical parameters study after compaction, and grasped the major projects of red clay for the foundation and high embankment program;â‘¡Dynamic consolidation method and vibro-compaction gravel pile method in red clay foundation treatment were studied, Analysed and evaluated the adaptability of the two treatment methods, proposed the corresponding parameters of the main control measures, treatment methods and quality control indicators, and other specific proposals for red clay subgrade treatment using dynamic compaction method and vibro-compaction gravel pile method;â‘¢Red clay high embankment testing were completed, and through the pilot implementation, analysis, summary, reclamation design and construction parameters and construction technology of red clay high embankment were proposed. Some construction control measures were improved,such as docking slope treatment, face overlap processing, interface processing, slope and the internal of filling drainage treatment, construction of water content and compactness;â‘£observated the ground deformation and settlement about red clay subgrade treatment and high embankment, and compared with the theoretical calculation results, the results showed that both basically the same. And calculated the final settlement,the settlement after construction , the differences of settlement of the pilot area venues. the calculation results in the control of the design, thereby further verified the red clay foundation effect reliability.Through the testing research on red clay subgrade treatment and high embankment in Kunming new airport, and tested results of testing, mary production have been achieved, such as treatment measures, the corresponding construction technology, construction parameters, construction key index, the corresponding detection methods, and the number of indicators. For the whole field similar ground handling and engineering design and construction,it proposed some basic data and guidance for the subgrade treatment and the high embankment engineering.
