The suspended sediment sampler has been carried out in our country since the end of 1950s.Through several decades'research and developments, series of products have been designed in 1980s. But these samplers have not been applied and spread, and they are only used in small range due to the different kinds of sampler caused extrusive problems for the data analysis. How to collect water sample exactly and rapidly becomes a great difficult challenge that the hydrologic departments have had to face for many years. So it is urgent to develop a new type suspended sediment sampler with the characteristics of credible capability, economical, practical and can be applied and spread. The Changjiang AYX2-1 surge type suspended sediment sampler was carried out under such backgrounds.A well used suspended sediment sampler must meet the need of the industry standards of suspended sediment sampler: a) it can collect the water sample which the liquid shape will not be disturbed, the flow velocity in the inlet is the same as natural velocity of flow and it can overcome the influences of sediment pulse. b) It can be used for all kinds of hydrological examination establishments and it also can be used for integrated examination. That is to say, the rate of sediment transport can be accomplished once by the sampler. So whether it can collect the representative water sample has become the important standard that evaluating whether the performance is excellent or inferior.The pressure adjusted system of the AYX2-1 sampler was designed according to the Boyle's law. The pressure adjusted room, arc pressure adjusted connecting pipe and water filled bottom hole was set in structure. The pressure balance was rapidly got by the means of dynamic balance pressure adjusted.So the problem of rapidly collection was solved and the influences of sediment pulse was eliminated. The phenomenon of the water sudden perfusion was avoided. The water will not fill the first cabin and the sampling cabin inversely. In the design of filling water pipe, the equilateral diameter and directly pass inlet water pipe was partly changed into taper pipe. Combined with the use of the vent-pipe, the water resistance loss was decreased and the flow velocity in the inlet is near to the natural flow velocity of the nozzle. By use of sideward channels pipe, the problem of sedimentation in the mouth of pipe was solved. The elliptical clipper-built shape was nice and the resistance of the sampler body decreased greatly. Combined with the adjusting effect of caudal wings, the stability of the sampler in the water body was advanced.Through the hydraulics analysis, calculation and structure design for each part of the sampler body, the AYX2-1 pressure adjusted suspended sediment sampler was carried out. By the sampling test for six months in hydrologic stations, the results shows that the guarantee rate that the precisions of the k value of inlet flow velocity of the sampler( k value is the key technique index that evaluating the suspended sediment sampler) locates between 0.9 and 1.1 reaches 97.8%. So it can be assuring used for collecting the representative water sample.The AYX2-1 suspended sediment sampler has the characteristics of easy operation, credible capability, better applicability, high measure precision, and good water power characteristic and so on. It has been applied in some hydrologic station. In January, 2007, the project of AYX2-1 suspended sediment sampler got the science and technology production identification that held by the science and technology bureau of Hubei Province.
