| The city square which has the symbolic meaning for power is a public space that is closely surrounded by the buildings. The sculptures in the city play an important role in the characteristics of the city, that is to say, the city's autobiography is written by the architecture, and the aphorisms and mottos are carved in the autobiography by the square sculptures. How to build a symbol for the city in the square and create the city culture is the key topic for the square sculptures.Therefore, the square sculptures are given more attention due to the urbanization. Compared with the western public art, both the art of model and the theory system in the Chinese square sculptures are different, which leads such a result that the citizens do not approve the local city square sculptures. This essay studies the region characteristics of the square sculptures existing in Xiangtan and the harmony of the environment and sculpture from the breaks through the "region", based on the art creation which is rooted in a certain region, ecological characteristics and cultural resources. This essay also constructs the frame of the region theory of the square sculpture. Finally, it provides some practical suggestions for the constructions of square sculptures in the city of Xiangtan.Following the Second Chinese(Xiangtan) Qi Bai-shi International Cultural Art Festival, Xiangtan is taking the assessment of the delegate of China National Tourism Administration for "Making the Red Top-Quality Traveling Place, Establishing Chinese Outstanding Traveling City". With the expectation of "Making the city into one which has regional culture and which will change the culture into capital", the research on the region of the Xiangtan square sculptures will play an important part in the practical instruction for the city environment and the city fame. |
