The original field regulators of the #3 and #4 generator in Harbin No. 3 power plant are HWTA-60 analogous products. The principle of this kind of field regulator is very complex. The operating is very instable. In addition, the factory has not produced the device of this kind. So the spare parts for maintenance can not be bought anywhere. Otherwise, there are some problems to different extend in the content of technology, the quality of the components and the level of the processing due to the confinement of the technology and some other conditions in that time. With the developing of the technology in electric power system, the device appears some defects just as the backward for technology, the poor ability for adjustment, the poor reliability and the automation in low level. So it has not had the ability to assure unit technology level by modernization grid.In order to modify the situation and keep the electricity generation station and the power line safe, excitation system should be reformed. Our factory adopted the all-digital non-linear control advice GEC which is fit to the real situation of our factory. It is presented that full duplex collocation mode that includes two independent control cabinet which includes controller, capacity bridge, electric source and correlative logical operation loop; Two controller can operate parallel, and each controller can satisfies excitation requirement by every dynamo operation condition include constrained excitation, which can implement undisturbed switching. At the same time, curved and parameter of overexcitation and underexcitation limitation were determined by our factory and manufacture, according to unit parameter and operation condition in our factory. Technology interface problem for generation-transformation group protection, corresponding device, thermotechnical loop was solved. Experimental plan for unit excitation system was established in this paper. Based on technology reformation, disadvantages of original excitation system such as backward for technology, poor reliability and great maintenance amount can be alternated and automation level can be increased.This article discusses the development of the field system, and makes an analysis about the development of the field regulators, and also discusses the usefulness of the field mode and the field regulator. Combining whit the 600 MW generalization excitation regulators reform in Harbin NO.3 electricity generation station, it analyses the operation principle and character of HWTA-60 standstill analog separate excitation system. Because of disadvantage as control method singleness and adjustment quality lowness, original excitation regulator can not satisfy the requirement by modernization grid for security and stability. Operation principle and character of GEC all-digital non-linear excitation regulator was analyzed, and control principle of excitation system adjustment was presented include: generator extremitas voltage deviation control PID, electric power system stagger PSS, linear optimum electronic control LOEC and non-linear optimum electronic control NOEC; every electrical parameter concept in excitation system was introduced; software design, hardware conformation, advanced non-linear optimum electronic control principle adopted by GEC excitation regulator and all-digital microcomputer control technology was introduced particularly.After input application, the GEC device experience twice attack test in system disturbed experiments, and every economic indicator and parameter was satisfied with system requirement. The success reform of GEC all-digital non- linear excitation control device not only provides protection for safe and stable operation of unit and grid, but also increases economic efficiency more than 1000,000 yuan for our factory in one year. The reform was assessed Harbin NO.3 electricity generation station yearly refinement project.
