Anti-sliding stability is the key problem in the gravity dam design. There were manyaccidents such as failure of the dam or modify of the design are caused by the dam basedefects. With the advancement of science, technology and economy, hydroelectricity isquickly developed, the geological condition of the dam becomes more and more complicated.Now, espect for the rigid equilibrium limit method, other methods such as FEM don't havedesign criterion and is in subordinate status. It is an important matter to be solved forresearchers.Aimed at the problem, experiences and research findings in the aspect of anti-slidingstability of the gravity dam are summarized in the paper and systematic research has beenperformed combined with the example of Long-kai-kou concrete gravity dam. The wholepaper consists of five chapters.Firstly the present investigation method of anti-sliding stability of gravity dam both athome and abroad has been presented, and rigid equilibrium limit method, FEM method andpartial coefficient method are stated in detail against 24# dam of Long-kai-kou power station,at the same time, elastoplastic FEM method is applied to discuss the overload and the strengthreserve ability of the dam, the results reveal the progressive destruction process and thedestructive mode of the system. At last, the author analyses the safety degree of all results andthe safety degree comparatively and suggests the proposed design criterion of FEM and deepanti-sliding stability.Chapter five discusses the use of FEM equivalent stress method on gravity dam stressanalysis. This method can avoid the stress concentration on gravity dam heel and the resultscan be used for safety assessment of gravity dams. Case study shows that equivalent stress issomewhat mesh independent, and suitable to be used to evaluate the corner stress of gravitydams. It has a good prospect in the stress assessment of gravity dams.Based on the actual project, anti-sliding stability has been systematically researched inthe paper. Also the author takes much more attention in thinking and summarzing, suggeststhe proposed design criterion of deep anti-sliding stability and stress criteria with FEM.Finally, the author summarizes the work that has been done, and propounds the problemsthat have to be investigated and solved.
