The development of the application of GPS in the research of vehicle handling and stability is introduced based on the published papers, and it can be concluded that the application of GPS is an important method in vehicle handling and stability research.This paper uses the principles of the real time kinematics differential positioning determination and the new developed equipment of RTK fifth wheel to measure the movement parameters of vehicle track and velocity. The kinematics theory is applied to establish the relationship between the point of the front wheel and the center of vehicle mass, and the evaluation indexes are deduced for stable circle movement of vehicle. Use two kinds of vehicle model to take experiment .Process the data from the RTK fifth wheel by using c++ program. The main works of this paper are:1) To establish the 2-dimension vehicle model and its simplified model according to the characteristics of RTK fifth wheel. Then deduce the theory equations and evaluation indexes respectively.2) The key program of GPS data processed and coordinate transformation is C++ program. Process the measured track and velocity of vehicle mass center, then draw the evaluation indexes series of vehicle handling and stability.3) Validate the correctness of the equation through stable circle movement test and steering wheel return ability test and the compared test respectively. Establish the theory foundation of the application of GPS in the research of vehicle handling and stability.
