This paper focuses on the research of the microstructure characteristics of expansive soil of Jiangsu Province 222 load in Zhenjiang Nanxu and it's application in the treatment of the slope of expansive soil.the distribution and strength of expansive soil was measured by a SMP-1 super-penetrometer. It's shown from the test results that the curve of the resistance force to the end of the needle versus depth during penetration can be presented and the strength distribution isoline maps of aggregates in any vertical section or horizontal plane of the defined cube-like blocks of samples. Which can show the intra-structural diversity and nonuniformity of sample.Applying environment scanning electron microscope (ESEM) on the study of the micropores characteristics of different water contents on expansive soil. Because ESEM observes samples without Dehydration and drying, after doing this, the microstructure of expansive soil was destried. Size, shape, and distribution of the voids can be analysed by the ESEM photo.it's convenient to build a function between time and displacement, the surface displacement can be measured by the stereo method throng one cameras. After getting a great deal of useful data, the principal of the displacement in different times and in different locations can be obtained by drawing displacement curves, consequently the experimentation can provide useful data for actual construction.Pore size distribution (PSD) and surface area (SA) are important physical characteristics for material in this paper, using the Poremaster GT-60 mercury injection apparatus and ASAP2000 physisorption apparatus to determine PSD and SA of expansive soil. Additionally, the general procedures of preparing of specimens of expansive soil using epoxy resin to impregnate expansive soil samples.
