The question which oil and coal energy are non-renewable resources and atmospheric pollution is gradually serious is increasingly puzzling us with the development of the society economy. So the full utilization of the by product of blast furnace gas resources of iron steel enterprises is just for this purpose. Blast furnace gas is used to generate electricity, which adapt numerous middle or small steel enterprises in our country to recycle and utilize it. Meanwhile it has good economic benefits and environmental protection benefits to relieve the energy crisis and reduce the environment pollution. Thus it's very significant to investigate the burning characteristics of the blast furnace gas engine. In order to simulate the combustion process of the blast furnace gas engine when the piston is to reach the top of process, we develop a constant volume combustion testing system of the blast furnace gas. The system is composed of the constant volume combustion bomb body, temperature control system, mixture allocate or supply system, spark ignition system, synchronal time series control system and combustion data capture and analysis system etc. The double–zone quasi dimensional combustion model is founded to analyze and treat with the experimental data. The thing that the parameters of laminar burning velocity, fired gas temperature, and flame propagation speed vary with the pressure, the equivalence ratio, the flame radius can be computed by the model through the actual pressure curves. The influence rule of initial pressure, the equivalence ratio, the components of blast furnace gas on combustion velocity and flame transition is investigated on the constant volume combustion testing system through the synchronous measurement and record methods with the high-speed photography technology as well as the combustion pressure. The calculative results using model and experimental results are analyzed and compared. Both the calculation and experimental results indicate: Premixed laminar burning velocity reduces to some extent with increase of the initial pressure, it increases with rising of initial temperature and its maximum appears when the equivalence ratio is larger than one. An increase of the amount of combustible gas in various components blast furnace gas can increase the numerical value of the laminar burning velocity and help to combust.
