The transient vibration Rayleigh wave technique is a new technique developed recently, which has a lot of advantages such as high resolution, widely applicable, small affected by the site, simple-equipment, efficient, non-destructive and so on. This test technique uses the frequency dispersion characteristics of Rayleigh wave which propagate in layer media and the closed relations between velocity and physical mechanical properties. Through field Rayleigh wave test, laboratory resonant column triaxial test and in situ neutral pressure monitoring, studying the application of Rayleigh wave which measurement the degree of consolidation of foundation soil. The main contents of the paper are as follows:1. Put soft foundation consolidation calculation methods which used in different precompression loading for the consolidation of soft foundation; based on the principle of drainage consolidation, analysis the relations of superload and consolidation of soft foundation; put the unloading control standards of soft foundation consolidation.2. Through studying propagation features, data acquisition, speed strike, and the specific features of transient Rayleigh wave test soft foundation consolidation; then a test method and the corresponding testing theory are put.3. The relationship between the shear wave velocity and the degree of consolidation can be established by laboratory resonant column triaxial test achievement, whose results were applied to the field test to strike the degree of consolidation of soft foundation. Contrasting the results of Rayleigh wave test and in situ neutral pressure monitoring, verificating the feasibility of testing the degree of consolidation efficiently by transient Rayleigh wave. Procedures are programmed by the FORTRAN language to calculating the physical parameters of the test efficiently.4. The effect of soft foundation evaluated though the degree of consolidation by Rayleigh wave test and the results of in situ monitoring, analysis the hidden qualitiy problems with advance unloading and propose appropriate recommendations.
