The Magnetic bearing, which floats depend on magnetic forces, is a new type of high performance bearing without friction between rotor and stator. It is widely used in the fields of mechanism, vacuum and so on, and is considered a brilliant application foreground product.The magnetic bearing will produce the power loss when working, which is lead to the temperature of the magnetic suspension rotor rising. Those phenomenon become a crux problem which limits the magnetic suspension rotor's control precision, high-speed and longtime working. It needs to study and solve this problem. The structural design of the magnetic bearing is significant influence to its temperature field distribution. Research on the power losses of the magnetic bearing which can provide the reliable basis for the structural design of magnetic bearings system .This paper introduces the magnetic bearing of historical development principle application prospects and the mechanism of the magnetic bearing power loss and its classification. The author analysis the current situation and main problem of the power losses of magnetic bearing at home and abroad, and extends a method for predicting rotational losses for laminated rotors of heteropolar magnetic bearing by using an eddy-current model including the effect of magnetic hysteresis in the rotor material. It also analysis the temperature fields of AMB grind spindle rotor. On the basis of it give some methods to reduce the power losses of magnetic bearing.
