The rock inner part implies a great deal of microscopic and macroscopic damage, they are the important factors that influences the rock mechanics property.Fractal geometry is a powerful tool for quantitative analysis of rock mechanical behavior in microscopic and macroscopic way . Compared with other methods, the using of fractal theory in the damage of rock materials has many advantages including quantification, briefness and easy grasp.In this paper ,the basic conception of fractal geometry is introduced ,and four methods of its application to engineering problems are proposed, including fractal experiment test , method of fractal model , method of inference, fractal structure simulation .And fractal geometry is adopted to study rock damage evolution and fractal mechanism .The research results show that the rock damage evolution is a fractal ,the fractal has statistic self- similarity ;the fractal formula of crack strength demonstrates crack distribution regulation and rock strength ;the damage evolution of rock material is a evolutional process for a fractal dimension D from microcrack spread to join and fracture of critical crack ,and the above research is in close agreement with the former result.
