This paper generally consists of seven chapters: The first chapter introduces the backgrounds, the significance, the adoptive method and the investigative content of this studied work. The second chapter introduces basic concepts of reliability and its quantitative indexes. The third chapter detailedly introduces common probability distribution of reliability. The fourth chapter introduces interference theory of stress-strength model and common formulas of calculating reliability; and presents several common reliability calculations. The fifth chapter introduces relation between safety factor and reliability and gives several common safety factors in pressure vessel design. The sixth chapter presents the method of reliability design is used in pressure vessel design by one engineering instance; and the author compares conventional design with reliability design of pressure vessel. In the last part, the author concludes the reliability design of pressure vessel and gives explicit opinions. This paper expounds that reliability is a new method, and at the same time, we can advancedly estimate the reliability of devised object. So reliability receives abroad application in multi-domanial designs. This paper points the devised goal of reliability and detailed steps of design. This paper studies the application of stress-strength interference model belonging to reliability theory in pressure vessel design. The author connects standard value with average value and standard difference of random variables by using safety factors existent in national standard and the variational differences of stuff. Supposing that all the random variables are submitted to normal school, we can get a safety factor according to the reliable tolerance and design pressure vessel by combining wall thickness calculating formulas of pressure vessel design with reliability formulas. At last, we can conclude that reliability design not only saves stuff, but also quantificationally reflects the reliable degree or destroyed probability by comparing conventional design with reliability design of pressure vessel.
