If the pantographic slipper has been worn down excessively, the slipper will not only affect the normal power supply but also produce radio interference. This phenomenon will become more obvious when the locomotive's speed become higher. According to the experience from the locomotive application, the different part's abnormal abrasion of the slipper can tell us the reasons that caused the collision of the pantograph and the catenary. So it is important for us to accurate measurement and monitor the surface of the slipper because the locomotive's speed has become higher and higher. At the same time, we can evaluate the electricity transmission performance and diagnose the OCS equipment. The detection methods that have been used in home and abroad include artificial detection, detection by using optical fiber, detection by industrial CCD camera and detection by laser sensor. In this thesis, we have researched and designed the experimental device to measure and monitor the pantographic slipper's surface based on ultrasonic measurement. The device consists of the PC and the lower computer based on DSP. The lower computer mainly responds for simulating the relative motion between the pantographic slipper and the ultrasonic sensor, measuring and storing different points' high value. The PC mainly responds for building and displaying the surface's 3D model. The PC communicates with the lower computer by RS232 serial communication port. The CPU chip adopted by the lower computer is the TMS320LF2407A. The CAN module, RS232/485 module, SPI serial peripheral bus and AD module has been embedded in the chip. The chip is very suitable for our requirement. The tools which we have used to develop the PC software are Visual C++ and OpenGL.The device has made a good foundation for further research.
