As the developing step of the high-speed and heavy-load railway has being accelerating in China, the loss of traction network's voltage is increased and results in the lowing of voltage of the end of traction net, so some trains can't run. The voltage need be elevated by way of the countermeasures. The important settle way of this problem is series compensation(SC) in the head or middle of the supply arm. It can reduce the impedance in the traction network and elevate the voltage of the end of traction network. The paper is based on the background of Nankun SC project. It introduce the compose of traction supply system and the basic theory of SC first and the calculate method on set capacity. This thesis introduces the design of SC of traction substation and interval finally. The paper brings forward the remote controlled design scheme based on the disadvantage of former control of SC set. This scheme adopts Half Duplex Master/Slave communication mode. The PLC program adopts the module programming idea in order to maintain conveniently later. Then introduces the design of upper computer and the function of supervisory interface. At last the design of communication between upper computer and lower monitor unit is introduced. It analyses the influence of distance protection after SC set is dived into traction network and bring forward the countermeasure based on the theory about distance protection. Finally, the voltage compensation experiment is operated in Nankun railway and it analyses the experiment datas of series compensation. This SC set had been running safely from 2006 to now. Voltage of the end traction network is elevated from 17.6-18.9kv to 20kv above recently by test and satisfies the request of railage wholly.
