Reinforced concrete frame structure is a common structural form, it will come into the plastic work state under strong earthquakes, and cracks will appear in some concrete components, partial concrete components end will be crushed, Reinforcement will be yield, and plastic hinge will be formed; then the whole structure will come into the damaging state, some components will be out of work, and the structure internal forces become redistribute , but the whole structure does not collapse at this time; As more components have to be out of work because of failure , the structural collapse occurred, then the overall instability and collapse will be occurred; In the destroying stage, some components will be out of work due to sabotage, the whole structure does not collapse, likely to continue to work. The behavior and characteristics of the structures in this stage was little understood and researched on . However, the stage is an inevitable and the most important stage in the collapse of the structure. Thus, the dynamic characteristics of the structure in the damaging stage is a particularly important issue. It is also a challenging research topic which contained too many unknown factors. Understanding the framework damage stage under earthquakes could help us formulate a reasonable means to prevent the damage and collapse of the structure. the earthquake disaster prototype repeat tests is almost impossible, so it is particularly important to study the process of the structure under earthquake from the flexibility state to the plastic state until damaged.In this paper, general finite element software ANSYS was used to establish a model of a 12-storey reinforced concrete frame structure, its vibration characteristics and dynamic characteristics under earthquake actions have been studied. And the three-band frequency and vibration of this frame structure have been gained, the cracks distribution and development of the reinforced concrete frame structure under earthquake during the whole process. A major study about the impaction of the element model, material model, loading, Solution involved in the selection of parameters to the finite element simulation results during finite element model establishing was considered. Then the comparation and analysis was started between the shaking table test results and the finite element numerical simulation results , It was found that the finite element numerical simulation was valid and the parameter selection is reasonable . It was calculated that the finite element software ANSYS can be used in simulating the damage process of the reinforced concrete frame structure under earthquake, and can be used to provide reference for the seismic design of reinforced concrete frame structure.
