Strut-braced wing (SBW) is an airplane configuration which has a strut to join the wing structure. In SBW configuration, the strut could alleviate the wing deflection and decrease the bending load effectively. Thus, it is used widely in the general plane design for the purpose of weight reducing. Lately, the SBW configuration is focused for its performance in large transport design. A lot of researches show the SBW configuration has better aerodynamic performances than the cantilever wing, and the distribution of structural material of the SBW is much more reasonable. For weight reduction, the SBW has a large potential space to explore. This paper mainly includes three parts. The first one is about the exploration and conclusion for the influence between the configuration parameters of the high-aspect-ratio SBW and its performances, including the lift to drag ratio and the coefficients of interference drag and wave drag. The second one is about the relationships between the joint position and the structural performance, including the weight and stiffness of SBW. At last, the paper used the design of experiments (DOE) and the response surface models to construct the frame of multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) for SBW, and give the conclusion. From this paper, the results show the SBW configuration has advantages in some performances than the cantilever wing, prove the technical feasibility of SBW in large transport design. The results could also be used for reference in SBW design in further work.
