SuperpaveTM (High performance asphalt- pavement) is a final product in the aspect of asphalt-pavement after the American Strategic Highway Research Plan (SHRP) completes, as well as one of the most important inventions in the recent years. In the Superpave system, the performance-grading standard of asphaltic binder mainly evaluates the performance of initial asphalt, and simultaneously evaluates the recycling asphalt and modified asphalt. The design of mixture volume primarily aims at the development of density grading mixture, and it is available for the design of SMA, OGFC or other special-purpose mixtures. This system is completely based on the performance and the consideration of the influence of factors like aging and water erosion to the pavement performance, therefore the pavement performance may be improved through controlling the indexes like wheel rut, low-temperature cracking, fatigue cracking, water-stability, etc.This thesis starts from the core of Superpave method, and its research is based on the Superpave12.5 asphalt concrete adopted by Hebei Road & Bridge Group Co., Limited, which is applied in the construction of Hubei Han-Yi expressway. First, it reviews the advantages and disadvantages of designing methods of Superpave and Marshall asphalt mixture; Next, by unifying the specific data, it carries on the test and research to the designing method of Superpave, and discusses the issues like the volumetric characteristic of mixture; Then, the thesis discusses the relationship between the compaction temperature and fracture strength in the construction, also introduces the spreading and rolling compaction adopted by our company in the construction of Hubei Hanyi expressway; Finally, the thesis draws a conclusion by unifying the present situation of the application of Superpave.
