Stress analysis of arch dam structure is an important part for its strength design, especially for high arch dam whose dimension and technical difficulty are all greater than the current design standard for the arch dam design, it is one key topic for the design and research of the high arch dam. It is very important and complicated to construct a FEM model and analyzed its stress to reflect the real stress condition for high arch dam in design process. Combining with a real project—Xiluodu arch dam ,the figure parameter of the dam was fitted firstly, then with the FEM software of ANSYS, a linear elastic FEM model of three-dimensional entity of the arch dam was constructed and analyzed for its stress and deformation. The arch chamfer and arch fillet of the arch abutment for structural design of Xiluodu arch dam were analyzed, especially focused on different chamfer and fillet which could make different results for stress and deformation of dam entity so as to supply a reliable scheme for design. The outlets stress of the dam was also analyzed and the reinforcement design was carried to supply reference for outlets reinforcement.The paper was divided into six chapters and the specific content of each chapter was as follows:In the first chapter, the present situation and development in arch dam design theory, the domestic arch dam design, the fillet stress analysis and reinforcement design research were summarized and finally the main research content of the paper was proposed.In the second chapter, the fitting problem of figure parameter for Xiluodu high arch dam was analyzed. The principle and method of parameter fitting for arch dam figure was introduced and a corresponding computer program was developed so as to get the dam figure and the CAD graphics for each elevation which can provide convenience for design and construction.In the third chapter, the stress analysis methods of arch dam were summarized, the element types that are often used in FEM analysis of arch dam and some points that should be focused on in FEM modeling were also summed up, and a program of automated creating element grids was developed. The development and the application of the FEM software of ANSYS was introduced and then a linear elastic FEM model of three-dimensional entity of the arch dam for Xiluodu hydraulic power station was constructed. The stress and displacement of the arch dam were calculated and compared with the results of Ertan dam so as to get better results of the stress and displacement of Xiluodu high arch dam.In the fourth chapter, the arch chamfer and arch fillet which are important factors for the structural design of Xiluodu arch dam was analyzed separately so as to make a reasonable scheme for design.In the fifth chapter, the theory of analyzing outlets stress of arch dam was introduced, and combining with Xiluodu Project the outlets stress analysis and reinforcement design of the dam were carried out.In the sixth chapter, remarks were made summarizing all the paper and ideas for further study about this topic were suggested.
