Power transformer whose state affects the security level of power system directly is one of the most important electrical equipments in the system. The study of transformer fault online diagnosis technology could find the potential faults of the transformer earlier. It is of great significance to increase operating and maintaining level of the transformer. Firstly, the significance and development of the fault online diagnosis technology of the transformer are introduced in the paper. The work which is carried out is also indicated briefly. Then the theories and methods on transformer faults diagnosis are discussed systematically. The structure of the system and its working principle are introduced in detail. According to the practices of power transformer faults diagnosis, the diagnostic theories which are applied to the power transformer faults online diagnosis are presented particularly. And a new integrated diagnostic model based on the information fusion technique is brought forward after the methods which have been discussed are compared adequately. At last, the realization of the software and hardware of the diagnosis system are elaborated, including their structure, functions, key techniques and so on.The transformer faults online diagnosis system is comprised by three main sub-modules including information classifying collection module, data classifying storage and all-around management module, and integrated faults diagnosis module. Through adopting the technique separating the blended gas from the transformer oil and the intelligent sensor array, the information classifying collection module not only ensures the realization of the diagnosis function, but also simplifies the system structure so as to increase the system maintainability. The data classifying storage and all-around management module are integrated by the functions of data input, output, querying and security management etc. Actually, the integrated faults diagnosis module is an integrated diagnosis model based on the information fusion technique. In term of the online monitoring transformer fault information, the sub-modules in the model diagnose the transformer faults respectively, then the results from all sub-modules based on different diagnosis theories and mechanisms are inputted decision-making fusion network to fuse. By this way, the diagnostic precision has been improved effectively. The system which has merits including perfect function, friendly interface and flexible maneuverability will be used in Hunan ultra high voltage transmission bureau, and will contribute to the security of power system and the automatic level of the power equipment monitoring system.
