Air spring is one of the key components of air suspension and widly used in the commercial vehicles and high speed passenger vehicles. In order to study the inflence of air springs on the vehicle performances, it is important to analyze the characteristics of air spring, especially the stiffness characteristic.In this paper, the different construction ,dimensions and stiffness characteristics of convoluted and rolling lobe air springs are studied. The formulation of air spring stiffness and frequency characteristics are derivated. The several important factors affecting air spring stiffness characteristics is presented. Based on a large amount of experiment in the field and analysis for the data, it is concluded mat the stiffness and load capacity can meet needs of commercial vehicles by means of selecting appropriate air spring construction, dimensions and air pressure. Convoluted and rolling lobe air spring can be applied into passenger and commercial vehicles. Convoluted air spring is widely used in the commercial vehicles for its excellent characteristics.This project provids the theoretical and implemental basis for the design of automotive air suspension and developing of air srings.
