Leaky Coaxial Cable (LCX) is also called Continue Antenna. It has characteristics of both transmission lines and transmitting aerials. Owing to the advantages of uniform coverage on the radiated field, strong adaptability and little electromagnetic pollution on the environment, LCX is recently widely used in communication systems in the blind zone such as mines, tunnels, subways and so on and it has already extended to the indoor communication systems. Therefore, the research on its technique is becoming a hotspot in the communication field.Beginning with the basic theory of LCX, this paper introduced its structure, classification and three important performance indexes including operation frequency-band, coupling loss and transmission loss. According to the slots on the outer conductor of LCX, the radiation theory was discussed and the radiation mode was analyzed. By the method of Cylinder Fourier Transform, the radiated field of LCX with different slots in free space was obtained.Because LCX is mostly used in the blind zone, the paper in detail discussed the radiated field of LCX in the blind zone combined with geometrical optics and waveguide matching method, including rectangular tunnel, circular tunnel, arch tunnel and rectangular space indoor. Meanwhile, we compared the radiated field of LCX with that of some traditional antennas in a runnel and space indoor. By comparison, LCX showed advantages in realizing wireless communication in such special areas. In conclusion, we provided basic theories for the application of LCX in wireless communication in the blind zone.
