When "regionally" encounters "globalization" in building, Chinese architects start to review the "Chinese flavor", and the essence of Chinese building is the folk housing. When "returning to nature" comes up against "high density" in residence, Chinese architects begin to ponder on "the ideal human settlement", and the soul of the ideal is the "settlement cluster".This thesis is focused on the traditional folk houses in Huizhou, and tries to seek out their shared characteristics with modern buildings through the extensive surface features of those houses. It sums up, through a large number of illustrations, the enlightenment and reference function that the features of Huizhou houses have on modern regional buildings, and bridges the gap between "traditional Huizhou housing" and "modern architecture".The whole thesis consists of ten chapters. First of all, it gives a general introduction. Then it moves on to analyze and expound the traditional Huizhou housing from the following aspects: the settlement cluster, folk houses, laneways, courtyards, decorations and so on. The purpose is to extract the features and techniques from the marvelous treasure of the traditional folk houses in Huizhou, and then to obtain a feasible and widely-applicable model so as to provide guidance for reginalized modern building. The full text has about 80,000 words. It has more than 200 illustrations and photographs.
