Cut-T strut is a newly developed kind of constructional steel material which has advantages of its economical section, being ample supply of goods, and also being simple formation. Recently years, Cut-T strut is widely used in China, and many studies on the property of this kind of strut have been carried out, but mainly about the stability behavior of axial compressed cut-T struts. Cut-T strut's section is one symmetry axis cross section, has Different buckling behavior from two symmetry axis cross section. It has two features in its buckling behavior when subjected to concentric compressive force. The first one is the fact that twisting always accompanies flexion upon the onset of buckling with respect to its axis of symmetry and thus reduces the bearing capacity of the strut. On the other hand, by shifting the force to the shear centre of the section, no twisting occurs any more and the buckling load can reach the flexural buckling load. Theoretical analyzing, testing and FEM calculating are included in this paper to study the buckling and bearing capacity. To verify the rationality of the theoretical deduction, shear center compression test and related material test of three different sections with each section having varied slenderness have been adopted to study the stability behavior of shear center axis compressed cut-T struts, the local buckling capacity of the strut web and the interactive buckling, and verifying the formula of limit of width-thickness ratio provided by Code for Design of Steel Structure GB50017-2003. And study the stability of cut-T struts by using the ANSYS-finite element analysis software, in which the factors such as residual stresses, geometric imperfections were considered. The investigation shows that the calculation formula provided by code GB50017-2003 is safe and reliable.
